British artist Heath Bunting is invited to Athens to present the workshop How to Build a New Legal Identity. The workshop addresses the issue of the social construction of identity and how it develops within networks and systems. Due to the financial and social upheavals at international level, identity is subject to constant changes. These changes include issues of organization and distribution of knowledge, new forms of communication and new ways of governance through the use of databases and networks.
In the framework of the Status Project (2004 – ongoing), part of which is the workshop, Heath Bunting explores the ability to create new mutable identities. The Status Project examines and maps the interconnections between persons and the UK system. Heath Bunting has been creating sets of databases, including over 10.000 entries, which in turn are depicted in software-generated maps. Each map represents the network of a given social status, such as the social status of a homeless person or a citizen of the European Union. Personal data such as an email account, a library card, a mobile phone contract or a credit card can expose our mobility in different systems and networks. Using tools from the web, such as email accounts and the public space, such as postal addresses, participants will explore their traces in the system through their mobility within it and the exchange of their personal data.
During the workshop, Heath Bunting will introduce us to techniques and strategies on how to form new identities. The distribution of the workshop How to Build a New Legal Identity across Europe aims at exploring the characteristics of identity in each country.

Ο Βρετανός καλλιτέχνης Heath Bunting έρχεται προσκεκλημένος μας στην Αθήνα για την παρουσίαση του εργαστηρίου How to Build a New Legal Identity. Το εργαστήριο πραγματεύεται το θέμα της κοινωνικής κατασκευής της ταυτότητας και πώς αυτή διαμορφώνεται στη σύγχρονη δικτυωμένη πραγματικότητα. Λόγω των οικονομικών και κοινωνικών ανατροπών στο διεθνές προσκήνιο, η ταυτότητα υπόκειται σε συνεχείς αλλαγές. Σε αυτές τις αλλαγές συγκαταλέγονται θέματα οργάνωσης και διανομής της γνώσης, νέες μορφές επικοινωνίας και νέοι τρόποι διακυβέρνησης που οργανώνονται μέσω βάσεων δεδομένων και δικτύων.
Στο πλαίσιο του έργου The Status Project (2004 – σε εξέλιξη), μέρος του οποίου αποτελεί το εργαστήριο, ο Heath Bunting εξετάζει τη δυνατότητα δημιουργίας νέων μεταβλητών ταυτοτήτων. Το Status Project (2004- σε εξέλιξη) εξετάζει και χαρτογραφεί τις διασυνδέσεις των ατόμων με το σύστημα του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Ο Heath Bunting δημιουργεί βάσεις δεδομένων, που περιλαμβάνουν πάνω από 10.000 καταχωρίσεις, οι οποίες στη συνέχεια μέσω λογισμικού απεικονίζονται σε χάρτες. Κάθε χάρτης αναπαριστά το δίκτυο μιας κοινωνικής θέσης, για παράδειγμα, την κοινωνική θέση ενός αστέγου ή ενός πολίτη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Προσωπικά δεδομένα όπως ένας λογαριασμός email, μια κάρτα βιβλιοθήκης, ένα συμβόλαιο κινητής τηλεφωνίας ή μια πιστωτική κάρτα μπορούν να εκθέσουν την κινητικότητα (mobility) μας σε διαφορετικά συστήματα και δίκτυα. Χρησιμοποιώντας εργαλεία από το διαδίκτυο, όπως λογαριασμούς email, αλλά και από το δημόσιο χώρο, όπως ταχυδρομικές διευθύνσεις, οι συμμετέχοντες θα ανιχνεύσουν τα “αποτυπώματα”(traces) που αφήνουν στο σύστημα μέσα από τις κινήσεις τους και την ανταλλαγή των προσωπικών τους δεδομένων.
Κατά τη διάρκεια του εργαστηρίου, ο Heath Bunting θα μας παρουσιάσει τεχνικές και στρατηγικές για τη δημιουργία νέων ταυτοτήτων. Η παρουσίαση του εργαστηρίου How to Build a New Legal Identity σε Ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο αποσκοπεί στη διερεύνηση των χαρακτηριστικών της ταυτότητας σε κάθε χώρα.
